 The Mercado Modelo Vendors Association – ASCOMM was founded in 1986, with the objective to create a communication chanel bringing together the shop owners, the Council administration and the State and Federal tourist departments.
Following an important period of influence after its creation, ASCOMM became inactive for four years and only retuned to activity in 1995. ASCOMM is responsible for hiring the employees who take care of the security and cleaning, in addition to marketing activities with the aim of promoting the label Mercado Modelo. Composed of 22 members elected by the shop owners for a period of two years, the Directors do not receive a salary to compensate for execution of their work.
